Adirondack Information Security LLC began its journey only a year and a half ago but is already making a name for itself in the cybersecurity consulting space by delivering top-notch service and expertise. The Cadyville, New York-based company has grown its clientele by 250 percent since March 2021.

James Snow, Adirondack’s principal security consultant and co-founder Christopher Maulding, principal security engineer, started the company to fill an affordability gap in the marketplace. They realized that cybersecurity consulting services aren’t affordable for public schools and small or medium-sized businesses. Adirondack works with clients in various industries, including manufacturing, healthcare, and education.

Adirondack keeps costs down for clients by selling them only the needed services, whether it’s Cybersecurity Engineer as a Service, SIEM configurations, firewall reviews, policy procedure development, penetration testing, vulnerability scanning, digital forensics, or risk analysis rather than a complete package. The company helps clients identify the vulnerabilities and threats that pose the most risk to them.

To deliver its services, the Adirondack team begins with an initial interview with clients to understand what they need. For example, they may be looking for guidance and advice. In that case, Adirondack can analyze the industry, look at attack patterns, and study recent breaches and compromises to create a roadmap for making changes to the client’s cybersecurity infrastructure to help them prepare for the threats they are most likely to face.

Clear communication and transparency are at the core of Adirondack’s services. The company’s representatives explain their services to clients so they know exactly where their security dollars are going and how Adirondack can help them meet their long-term cybersecurity goals.

“One of the things that differentiates us from other enterprises is that we aren’t married to any specific vendor,” Maulding says. “When we talk to our clients, we are not trying to shove anything down their throats.”

Along with its services, Adirondack offers robust reporting to clients. When creating reports, Adirondack doesn’t just use a tool and give the results to them. Instead, the company offers something more personalized.

One of the things that differentiates us from other enterprises is that we aren’t married to any specific vendor. When we talk to our clients, we are not trying to shove anything down their throats

For example, if Adirondack performs a system scan and discovers an operating system is unsupported, they don’t insist on an immediate upgrade if the client can’t afford one at the moment. Instead, Adirondack will help the organization by suggesting mitigation tactics that work for them and fit their budget. Adirondack includes its clients’ IT staff in conversations on improving their cybersecurity posture. Clients solicit Adirondack’s services for a variety of reasons. For instance, certain clients may be concerned about growing cybersecurity risks they are reading about in the news or need to comply with new privacy regulations. Others hire Adirondack after experiencing a cybersecurity breach.

The Adirondack team focuses on putting the client at ease during this stressful time by acting calmly and professionally and helping the organization identify and mitigate the breach. This often leads the client to decide if they want to hire Adirondack on a more long-term basis to prevent future attacks.

“A lot of people know our names and know our faces. What we want to do is present a cybersecurity solution that is not so daunting or overwhelming for businesses,” says Snow. “We want to be attainable for all businesses, no matter what size .”
